Hair Thoughts

Well hello beautiful people!!! How ya doing? I hope this blog finds you blessed and safe. Since deciding to go natural, I've been thinking alot about changes in my life all across the board. Have you ever felt the need to just one day want to wake up & feel refreshed? Feeling like a brand new you? I believe for me, this natural hair journey will be the start of something new, not only with my hair but also shaping me as a whole from top to bottom. I am excited and I pray that God will take me thru this path and all other paths the most blessed and safest way.

Ok, so I must say that everyday I have become obsessed with doing constant research. My research consists of researhcing ingredients/products which are safe and unsafe for the hair. I will sooner or later post a blog, listing full details of some of the products/ingredients that are HELPFUL and HARMFUL to the hair. I will also conduct interviews with natural hair sistas and brothers who will state when and why they decided to go natural. If you think you'd like to be a part of this interview and would love for your picture and statement to be posted to my blog, please leave a comment below with your email address and I will contact you with more specific details. I would love for you to be apart of this. It is my goal to empower people about caring for their hair as I was empowered. I can honestly say that it wasn't until I decided to go natural that I found out some alarming information, things that made me gasp, like wow! Did I really use that in my hair? It's insane. It's sad to say that for over 10 years I haven't been taking care of my hair properly but as they say, better known now then later. I will take all of the information that I've gathered and apply it now and for the rest of my journey, and so on.

I don't think people really understand, just as I didn't, the chemicals and ingredients that can damage our hair. Upon doing my research, I discovered so many things. I am thankful of what I learned, and still learning. One of my other goals is not to try & convince people to go natural, but to make them aware of what helps the hair and what hinders the hair growth & weakens it. I can only speak from my own experiences and from the research that I've done.

My Current Hair Update: Currently, I am still rocking the kinky curly coil puff, whatever you wanna call it, lol. I am getting ready to change it to an afro peice. I am going to the Circle of Sistas on Saturday and wanna look my best. One year I went and I was AMAZED to see so many beautiful African-American men and women. It was a beautiful thing. Anyway, I am going to do a protective style for the entire month of November and December. The last week in December I will do my BC. I know it will still be winter and as cold as ice outside, but I will be sure to wrap my hair up everyday before I head out.
Ok lovely ones, until next time, stay blessed and beautiful.

Hair Product Junkie??

Hey beautiful people!!! There are many hair care products that I have used over the years, some of which I recently decided to no longer use. With that being said, there are SO MANY hair care products out there that cater to natural hair. But guess what? Everyone does not have the same textured hair, and what will work for one person may not work for the other. I have a few products, and I definitely don't want to become a hair product junkie. I want to have no more than two main hair care lines that I'll use. Since going on to you tube and viewing several natural hair care videos, I have come across these products, products that I had never heard of of even used:

1. Eco Styler Gel

2. Uncle Funky's Daughter hair magic (and other products)

3. Carol's Daughter products

4. Jane Carter Soultions

5. Herbal Essences (TotallyTwisted Waves and Curls Conditioner & None of your Frizz)

6. Kinky Curly

7. Miss Jesses's Products

8. Karen's Body beautiful (A friend on Facebook told me about these products)

9. Koils by Nature (She's on my FB and youtube I believe)

10. Alikay Naturals

11. Mixed Chicks

There are more that I have heard of but there's just too many to remember. The main point is that each individual uses what works for their hair.

To keep track of what I am doing and what I want, I have developed a hair notebook. I worte down my current hair regimen and what i'm trying to do as far as my regimen. It is still a little shaky but I will get it together soon. However, Today I made a decision on what my main products will soon be. I will finish using my Alikay Naturals hair prodcuts and do one last order, maybe, lol. I want to try Jane Carter Solutions. I want a product to actually stick to, and one that will work for my hair; a product that will be easily accessible, meaning I can just go to the store and pick up what I need. I will try this and see if it will work for my hair. Right now I'm presently using Alikay Naturals, I co-wash with my Herbal Essences, and last week I shampooed and deep conditioned with Carol's Daughter. I don't wanna use too many products all at once but it seems that I am, lol. I co-washed this Monday with the Herbal Essence Totally Twisted Waves and Curls. It smells YUMMY. I noticed after I co-washed, white flake was in my scalp! YIKES!. It was that Eco Styler gel. I'm thinking that was the cause of me spraying my hair with oil before and after I geled it, so maybe you have to use that gel with nothing under or on top of it. Feeling disgusted, I washed that crap out with a tea tree soap I recently brought from Trader Joe's. It stripped ALL of the moisture out of my hair, Uggggg. So I had to co-wash again! Don't worry guys, I will get this regimen right and on track soon. Part of learning is to make mistakes, so I now will ease up on the gel or don't put the gel on top of anything else.

I also must say that I wasn't too crazy about the Carol's Daughter products. I used the Khoret Amen Shampoo with Sea Moss and Khoret Amen Hair Smoothie. It was cool. I did like the way the smell lingered in my hair after the wash and the next day or so after. I could still smell the shampoo and smoothie. Hopefully it did it's job but I just wasn't wowed by it. So I will not be using that on a regular, only if I really want to. You ladies, and gents know that you have your days when you don't want to use a product and then two weeks later you decide you wanna use it again? Am I right or what? Yes. So this is the case with me. I will either post a video or pics in another blog of my products and the other products that are no longer in use. So this is my take on hair products and I would love for you beautiful people to share with me any tips or stories. Also, from time to time, I will put up some questions and would love for my readers and subscribers to comment and participate.

Oh, one last thing, I have really been researching about shea butter and oils such as Castor Oil, Olive Oil and many more. I am VERY excited because soon I will be making my very own hair butter. I love to experiment and of course, I will take you from the beginning to the end. Thanks for reading guys. Peace and Blessings.

Hair Update

Hey beautiful people!!! So I'm updating you on my hair. I FINALLY  took out that weave, thank God, lol. On Wedensday I took out the cornrows and washed my hair. It felt so good to wash and condition my hair. Yayyyy, lol.I used my new products by Carol's Daughter. I will do a video and maybe also list my hair products. For about two weeks I've been in confusion about either doing my BC or continuing to transition. I FINALLY decided to continue to transition and I am happy about this!!!. Below are some pics of what I decided to do to my hair after I took out the cornrows from the weave. That is a hair peice. I call it my fantasy peice because this is the puff that I want, so I will try to reach this goal one day and will update you the whole way. Thanks for reading. Peace and blessings.

Cut It Out!

Hey people! Just a quick update. Last night I couldn't take it anymore. I cut out my weave. I could no longer take the weave pulling my edges, left side of my head and in the back. It pulled so much that my edges are now thinner than usual. I am disappointed by this. On top of that, the little braids that I had on the side, when the African woman who styled my hair did them, she took a thin peice of hair and tied it for the braid to not unravel. I had the roughest time trying to get that crap out of my hair, and in the process cut some of my own hair. (sad face, dissappointed). I am over it though. I know where I am going with my hair and I am ready for whatever I will have to do in order to gain back my thick and healthy hair. I will share most or all of my hair experiences with you because we all learn from our mistakes and experiences. We've been through it all with our hair and I would LOVE for you to also feel free to share your hair experiences with me and the rest of the readers. I will post a few pics to show you the weave experience and why the African's will NOT be caring for my hair anymore when it comes to styles. Unless I can find one that will actually care for my natural hair in the future when I will want a particular style, right now it's a dead issue. It is time for me to TAKE CONTROL of my body and hair and treat it with the most valued respect and beauty. Peace and blessings.

Transitioning

Hey Guys!!! I decided to start a blog on my transition from relaxed to natural hair. I must say that I am VERY excited about this. I REALLY REALLY want this. I honestly got sick of relaxers, and I can remember a few times where I put a relaxer in my hair and it didn't come out straight. It was still wavy in my roots. I was like WTH? I WANT STRAIGHT HAIR! lol. It was insane. Then I would go do that every two week wash and set: HEAT HEAT AND MORE HEAT! I loved the results but soon after, ok.....BORING. Ladies, do you know what I mean? So I then resorted to using a super relaxer.  In 2004 or 2005, my hair grew back down my back. I was so excited!!! But of course, I grew bored of my hair and just didn't feel like doing it. I put in kinky twists and it was history after that. Once I took those out, my hair drastically came out. My hair was thin and shorter in the back. I was devastated. Soon after I decided to cut my hair into a short style. Since then, my hair has been basically short. It would grow back then I'd cut it again. Colors, dyes, dreamy crack, looking nice and then not. Styles that were too tight, popping my hair around the edges, it was a mess.

I made a decision recently, my final decision to FINALLY go natural. I had been on youtube since the summer, watching different videos of other sistas transitioning from straight to natural and even doing their BC (BIG CHOP), which means cutting off all of that relaxed hair and gracefully wearing your natural hair out. I watched several videos from one of some ladies BC to 1 year later and OMG. I was amazed at their progress. I really think it also depends on the person and how you CARE for your hair. So, I will take you on my journey. On this blog page I will post more information and specifics about what products I use, will be using and will no longer use. I will also post my hair regimen, plenty of pics, have contests for subscribers and follwers to win some great products (coming soon) and more. Please stay tuned and also please subscribe to my youtube page. All comments and feedback are welcomed. Let's enlighten each other. We are all women so lets love and support each other. Peace and blessings.
